BeAware exhibited at ICT4EE, Brussels, March 19-20
ICT4EE is a a high level event on ICT for energy efficiency, arranged by The European Commission’s Information Society and Media Directorate-General, in cooperation with the Czech Presidency of the European Union.
Some of the work made so far within the BeAware project will be presented in a stand there.
How do we get through to the customers in the information overload nowadays?
One of EU’s goal is to save 20% energy by the year 2020. There are already a number of tools available for follow up on consumption, like smart meter readings, energy measurers and statistic tools. However, these tools will usually only provide data and statistics and you still have to draw all your own conclusions regarding your consumption. This can be both difficult and time consuming which will make many consumers uninterested.

Giulio Jacucci, HIIT, have for the last three months supervised two groups of students that have developed and presented ideas for BeAware. These concepts are now presented on two websites.
An Ambient Interface Prototype was demonstrated with several scenarios of why and how to display feedback with dimming. Technology wise the X10 seems to be slow and outdated the students pointed out to a new protocoll technology
iPhone web technologies and multitouch visualisations. In particular they demonstrated simple embedding of conservation principles in simple games.
BeAware will participate on ICT Event 25 – 27 November 2008, Lyon, France
