BeAware has created a solution that raises awareness of our energy consumption and allows us to change our behaviour for the good of the planet. Energy Life includes a mobile phone application, and an ambient interface that makes use of the 
home lighting and lamps as a means to communicate alerts. It provides feedback about consumption habits, and empowers users to become active and responsible consumers.

Interactive Institute showed BeAware’s solution Energy Life in Ericsson’s booth at the conference Metering Europe, October 6-8 in Barcelona. EU has decided that all member states must adjust to the smart metering system by 2020. Ericsson is one of several companies that are interested in being a total provider of smart metering since they already have the knowledge about communication needed. They wanted to show their potential customers what the latest technique can deliver to the user’s, and Energy Life was suitable for this purpose.

Interactive Institute presented BeAware at the national research arena, arranged by Elforsk and Swedish Energy Agency, August 26-27 in Sweden. The conference gathered 50 delegates from institutes, universities and energy companies to listen to the latest research results within energy usage today and in the future.

Energy conservation is a growing area of interest for pervasive computing. Recently the problem of conserving energy through involvement of consumers has become topical. The multidisciplinary challenges for pervasive applications are numerous, including pervasive sensing of energy consumption, energy efficient infrastructures for sensing energy and users, and designing engaging applications that do not disrupt but support everyday activities.

The two days at ICT4EE – Charlemagne building in Brussels, 19th and 20th March 2009, was very well organized. This high-level event on Information and Communication Technologies for Energy Efficiency in Brussels brought together many of the interesting projects within FP7 for exhibition and had several seminars in the subject.
