Giulio Jacucci

Giulio leads Ubiquitous Interaction at the Helsinki Institute for information technology. He has managed several national and European funded research projects focusing on user experience of ubiquitous and mixed reality applications. His current research includes mixed reality and presence in urban environments (FET EU IST IPCity), multimodal and affective interfaces in art and entertainment (EU IST CALLAS). Jacucci serves as a member of program and organizing committee of several conferences in Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia, mobile HCI, Tangible and Embedded Interaction, and design research. Jacucci has over 30 publications in journals, international conferences and books investigating interaction design and user experience of ubiquitous and tangible computing.

Dr. Massimo Bertoncini

Born in 1967, got his University Degree in Management Engineering in April 1992 at University of Palermo. He obtained his Ph.D. in Production Engineering on January 1995 at the University of Palermo. From October 1994 until April 2002 he worked in the IT European Projects Department of the Italian Customs Agency. He was appointed 1998 coordinator of CCN/CSI (Common Communication Network/Common Software Interface) project, and in 1999 was directly involved in the G7 Working Group for the harmonization of the Telematic Customs Claims. Since May 2001, he has been working in the R&D Laboratory of Engineering S.p.A, where he was involved in several project as coordinator Eusland R&D IST, Homey (Homey Monitoring through Intelligent Dialog Systems), TNT (Trusted Network for online Trading). BRICKS (Building Resources for Integrated Knowledge Services) 6th FP R&D IST Integrated Project, in the area of access to and preservation of cultural heritage. Currently he is the Director of the CALLAS (Conveying Affectiveness Leading-edge Living Adaptive Systems) 6th FP IST Integrated project in the area of Multimodal Interfaces.

Carin Torstensson

Carin Torstensson, born 1969, has studied to Bachelor of Science at Karlstad University and she has also studied to Technical Writer at Mälardalen’s University, Faculty of Information Design. She has been working at Interactive Institute since 2005 and was appointed as director of the Energy Design studio, one of the departments at Interactive Institute, 2006. The group Carin is directing focus on research in design, IT and energy and she has been project manager for three research projects. Her fourth project is in working progress. The research is based on persuasive technology and through computer and cell phone games do they examine if teenagers can be motivated to save energy. After her studies at Mälardalens university she worked at Logica (former WM Data) as a porject manager for three years. Carin has also worked seven years in the games publisher industry as project manager and license manager. She started at the Bonnier owned Bonnier Multimedia AB. Then she went to Levande Böcker which became Pan Vision.

Gunnar Bröms

Uberto graduated in Nuclear Engineering, has a 18-years experience in environmental monitoring and in ICT applications to environment and security. He has been managing Italian and European R&D project since 1989, ranging from the development of instruments for environmental monitoring, to sensor network deployment to IT applications. Ha has been coordinating the deployment and maintenance of air quality monitoring networks in many Italian cities and provinces. He has been actively cooperating with UNI (Italian Agency for Standardisation and Unification) and UNICHIM (Italian Agency for Chemical Standards Unification) working groups for the Environmental Commission, as well as representing the Defence Systems and Space Sector within the Environmental Council of ANIE (Italian National Association of Electronic and Electric Industries).

Luciano Gamberini

Luciano is an Associate Professor at the Department of General Psychology and directs the Human Technology Laboratories (HTLab). He holds a degree in General Psychology and a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology. Since 2000 he teaches several courses in the area of Social and Cognitive Ergonomics and Mediated Communication in the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Padua and at the Faculty of Cognitive Science at the University of Trento. He is a member of the scientific boards and chair of International conferences and journals, including The International Workshop on Presence, Persuasive Technology, Cybertherapy, CHI, CHItaly ACM SIG, PsychNology Journal, Cyberpsychology and Behavior, and the Emerging Communication Series by IOS press. He is author of more than 50 peer-reviewed scientific papers and conference presentations in the area of human-computer interaction. Matti Lehtonen

Matti is director of the Power Systems Laboratory at the Department of Electrical Engineering. Professor Lehtonen was with VTT Energy, Espoo, Finland from 1987 to 2003, and since 1999 has been a professor at the Helsinki University of Technology. He received both his Master’s and Licentiate degrees in Electrical Engineering from Helsinki University of Technology, in 1984 and 1989 respectively, and the Doctor of Technology degree from Tampere University of Technology in 1992. The main tasks of Dr. Lehtonen include power system planning and asset management, power system protection including earth fault problems, harmonic related issues and applications of information technology in distribution systems.

Lassi is a post-graduate student in Cognitive Science, University of Helsinki. He has over three year of full-time experience on research and has published in several conferences and international journals. His expertise lies on the cognitive psychology of memory, but his research interest include broad themes such as expertise, creativity and cognitive modeling of conceptual design. Liikkanen is currently a researcher at the Helsinki Institute for Information Technology and also a consultant and a visiting university lecturer.

Anna is Assistant Professor at the University of Padova, Department of General Psychology, and scientific coordinator of the Human Technology Laboratories (HTLab). She holds a degree in Social Psychology and a Ph.D. in Social and Personality Psychology. She teaches ‘Attitudes and Discursive Practices’ and ‘New Communication Environments’ in the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Padua and ‘Ergonomics and Work Analysis’ in the Faculty of Cognitive Science at the University of Trento. Her research interests are in the field of mediated interaction and social presence, and she is expert in qualitative research methods applied to HCI. She co-funded and is co-editor in-Chief of PsychNology Journal to support the open-access dissemination of scientific research in the area of ICT.
